Introduction

When I had hit a wall with my health and I saw no way forward, I happened to be reading a biography about Albert Einstein. Here are some of the quotes he is known for that gave me ideas and encouraged me to press on.

Overview

My teenagers were asking me what I thought about Albert Einstein because he came up in our history lessons in our homeschool. It dawned on me that I didn’t know much about him.  So, like I tend to do, if I don’t know the answer, I go looking for it—besides I liked reading biographies and hadn’t read one for a while.

Little did I know that this biography and his quotes were going to be what caused me to look for different answers by asking different questions. Some of Einstein’s quotes encouraged me to get irrational about my ideas and to use my imagination. Other quotes were inspiring when I felt like I wasn’t even qualified to try and look for the question.

Here are twelve of Einstein’s Quotes that resonated with me well during this time. I’ll begin with the quote that started it all and end with the quote that encouraged me the most to press on.

12 Albert Einstein Quotes

Albert Einstein's Quote “To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle, requires creative imagination and marks real advance in science.”

1. old problems

“To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle, requires creative imagination and marks real advance in science.”

At this time in my life, I had been doing the “healthy living lifestyle’ for decades. This wasn’t the answer. So, what was?  This is when I did as Einstein suggested and started looking for new questions. This is also the quote I use on the back of my book, Health Backwards: An Original Look from a Different Perspective.

2. Irrational Thought

Albert Einstein's Quote “I never made one of my discoveries through the process of rational thinking.”

“I never made one of my discoveries through the process of rational thinking.”

This particular Einstein quote was the one that was pushing me to think of crazy ideas and possible new questions. When I was brainstorming for possible different questions to my health challenges, I found myself returning to this quote.

Albert Einstein Quote “If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it.”

3. Absurd Idea

“If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it.”

When I was working on discovering what was wrong with my health, I was a little frustrated about my situation. I was carrying around my homeopathic remedies instead of taking them. This was more effective for me. Why? It was absurd and driving me crazy looking for the answer. It took about three years before I had the first ah-ha possible reason for why this was the case.

I know it sometimes hurts when hoping for something to finally work when struggling with health challenges.  But I want to give you hope anyway.

Albert Einstein's Quote “Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible.”

4. Achieve Impossible

“Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible.”

Yes, at the time, I felt like I was being absurd and there was no way I would ever get rid of my chronic fatigue or faulty pituitary gland problems—in which the doctor said I had a life expectancy of 38-42. I was almost 41 at the time. BTW: I am writing this now at age 55.

Albert Einstein Quote “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift, and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”

5. Intuitive Mind

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift, and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”

This quote was good to know. When I was in this stage of doing what was working and not knowing why, this Einstein quote made me feel better about the daily decisions I was having to make even though I had no grounds to explain why I was doing them.

Be Brave Enough to Take One More Try

I know it sometimes hurts when hoping for something to finally work when struggling with health challenges.  But I want to give you hope anyway.

Albert Einstein's Quote, “Imagination is the highest form of research.”

6. Imagination in Research

“Imagination is the highest form of research.”

Yes, I remember when I first started researching my long-term health challenge by  myself. I don’t think I could have managed to “Think Outside of the Box” if I didn’t start using a string of “what if” questions. One of those first questions was along the line of “maybe we have this whole thing backwards.” When you are told so much of your health depended on your lifestyle and your lifestyle was correct, maybe it wasn’t just about lifestyle.

Albert Einstein's Quote “What is right is not always popular and what is popular is not always right.”

7. What’s Popular

“What is right is not always popular and what is popular is not always right.”

I am very convicted about my DISH hypothesis.  By factoring a faulty DISH into my health challenges, and creating it manually, I was able to make progress using the previous methods that didn’t work. I know I am the only one currently talking about this, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I am not correct.

Albert Einstein's Quote “It is not that I'm so smart. But I stay with the questions much longer.”

8. I’m Not That Smart

“It is not that I’m so smart. But I stay with the questions much longer.”

My mission was to figure out my invisible health problems so that I could prevent my children from being in the same boat I was in when they became adults. I didn’t think I could figure it out in time to help myself. I surely wasn’t expecting what I figured out about DISH (Defensive Individual Shield Hypothesis) to be so phenomenal.

Be Brave Enough to Take One More Try

I know it sometimes hurts when hoping for something to finally work when struggling with health challenges.  But I want to give you hope anyway.

Albert Einstein Quote “Everything must be made as simple as possible. But not simpler.”

9. Make Simple

“Everything must be made as simple as possible. But not simpler.”

My hypothesis of DISH is very simple. It is automatic for those who can benefit from medication and supplements. DISH needs to be achieved manually for those who have a faulty DISH. This isn’t easy. I do believe a working DISH—automatic or manual—does determine if a person can be well.

Albert Einstein's Quote “The only real valuable thing is intuition.”

10. Intuition is Valuable

“The only real valuable thing is intuition.”

I allowed my gut feelings to guide me in which direction to search. I would sway test for a solution for my current problem for the day, try it, and if it worked, then research the why it could have worked. Doing this over and over again helped me to uncover many connections I don’t think I could otherwise find. These pieces to the puzzle kept building up until I came up with my DISH idea. It took five years to get to this point.

Albert Einstein's Quote “I believe in intuitions and inspirations...I sometimes FEEL that I am right. I do not KNOW that I am.”

11. Feel/Know

“I believe in intuitions and inspirations…I sometimes FEEL that I am right. I do not KNOW that I am.”

Once I had this DISH visibly in my mind, I began testing it. I tested it for another five years before I decided to begin to share what I had discovered. I know what works, I have a good idea of the reason it works, and now I am anxious to see how far this new idea can help others with their invisible illnesses and health challenges.

Albert Einstein's quote, “The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been before.”

12. Crowd vs. Woman

“The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been before.”

During this time, I felt so alone when it came to finding answers for my health. It wasn’t until about nine years in—when I could explain what I understood—that I was finally able to find someone to help me the way I needed helped. I guess you could say it was a darn good thing I wasn’t waiting for others to join me. I may never have made the discovery I did.

Conclusion

For a scientist like Albert Einstein to share his amazing tips via his quotes years after he is gone is a good testament to the value of ideas and books.
